☆ Yield [illustration friday]

Yield
I am battling the will of a 3 year old who is going on sixteen.

I know this is a battle that I will keep fighting, especially as she grows older, but jeez I am tired.

Tired of the battle of wills, tired of this beautiful little girl, turning into an ogre that would put her beloved Shrek to shame. (That is Shrek pre Fiona, cause we all know he's a pussy cat after he meets her)
In my head I am shouting in the voice of an ancient warrior who wants to defeat his enemy -
‘You will YEILD to me’.
In reality I am saying
‘that will be three more minutes on the thinking step’..... where is my wine!

  1. Your drawing is ADORABLE and amazing. Hang in there with the 3-year old. Sounds like my son, many years ago, and we all survived somehow. He's now 30 and an all-round great, great guy. (Yes, they DO grow up :)).

    1. Thanks Sherry! Part of me can't wait for Bean to get past this stage, but I so don't want her growing up too quickly! Thanks for visiting x

  2. I can totally relate. I have 3 yr old and a 17 yr old daughters and I swear sometimes they are on the same page with the anger blurting and the moody tantrums. The nice thing is between 4 and 10 it quiets down and they become pretty nice people to be around.

    1. I am sure thats what I was told about the terrible twos! Every now and then we have this gorgeous little girl who is so thoughtful, but then the anger takes over and eclipses everything! Thanks for visiting! x

  6. Great illustration - can see your fustration in the expression. Love the Tee - should be standard mother apparel (as well as a Wonder Woman Tee...). My mother always said "choose your battles" which seemed to apply directly to the battle of wills between my daughter and I. Usually ended in me yielding though...

  7. Hello Kirstin
I felt so compelled to comment on this post. My daughter (now 25) was always the one who I had massive battle of the wills with (3 boys as well, in comparison a breeze! Meh!!) I remember her first full on tanty at age one (believe it or not!) bought a neighbour running over to see who was murdering her and a very red face for me. She on the other hand just didn't want to get into the car to go to the shops! And I didn't want her to think that by having a paddy she could get her own way, outcome - no one yeilds - no one wins! Ah hindsight such a wonderful thing. Looking back now I think I should have picked my battles and handled things a little more tactfully. Upside to the story is that by 14 when lots of my friends where having major battles with their daughters we had it all sorted out and she really was quite lovely to have around. She is now a fabulous, mature, caring adult (still with strong beliefs mind you!) but I am so proud of her! Hang in there it does get easier x PS. She has red hair!!!

    1. Hi Sarah - sorry for the late reply! LOL I know all about tanties at age one (both my beloved daughters were champion tranty throwers by then!)

I found your comments so funny, I was reading and nodding thinking yes, yes, yes! Hopefully we will have a smoother teen years too and I know it is worth the battle now, although hard to get through at times, and hopefully my girls end up just like yours, she sounds wonderful! Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment.

      Cheers,
      Kirstin
