☆ Shy [illustration friday]

Fairy in the Grass
Another gum tree fairy has popped up in my studio, although this one is a little shy.

I am totally immersing myself into this years AEDM challenge, (so far so good!), but I know from experience there will be a lull during the month when I struggle to create anything.

Today I finished my Fairy, and started on some new backgrounds.

I am hoping that they will bring some more inspiration my way.

What do you do when the tank runs dry? I would love for you guys to share any tips you have?

Tomorrow is give away day here on Listening to the Squeak, so if you have a minute pop back in for a chance to win an awesome prize!

  1. Love your fairy! And when my tank goed dry I usually do something that I did more often and like a lot! In my case drawing plain and very simple bunnies, or doodles. The process of drawing gets me started and sparks my creativity.

  2. Lovely fairy. When my tank runs dry I may pick up some magazines and create some quick collages. Or, I may pull out some paint and start scraping it onto paper. The act of just doing something and showing up can trigger creativity.

  3. LOVE the gum tree fairy. Shy but beautiful! Hmm...when "my tank runs dry" it's usually either because I need a nap or I need to free up my mind by crossing a few important things off my to do list. For me it's usually about removing barriers so that creativity can flow.

    1. Thanks Janice. I had that problem today - I couldn't get 'into' anything, and I realised that I was just super tired and needed a nap! x

  5. awwww ... she's really expressive!

Dry tank makes me do housework. Then I'll think of something and the housework doesn't get done.

  6. I'm very thankful that I am too new to have my tank run dry just yet...my barrier to creating usually comes from fear of the outcome or not being able to decide what to do next. When it's fear I try something new because you're supposed to make mistakes when you're learning...I suppose trying something totally new and different could might work for you too?

  7. I love your soulful fairy. When my tank runs dry, I try and take a break, fresh air and a walk usually gives me fresh ideas.

    1. Thanks so much. I am the same - if I don't get out for a walk most days I begin to feel blocked and cranky - the fresh air really helps to give things a new perspective x
