☆ The Tea-Cup Pirate [Work in Progress]

Week 24 - June 13th 2014

It's been a while since I've shared a work in progress post, and if you have been following my instagram feed, you may have seen some of these photos.

This particular painting has been sitting in my to be painted pile since early february, and was inspired by, of all things, an Aldi catalogue. (Aldi is a supermarket like Europe's Lidl's)

So this was the start of the Tea-Cup Pirate, and at first she wasn't co-operating at all, the paint dried too quickly to blend properly, (being winter in Australia the heater in the studio is on constantly)

So I had to work quicker, which irritated me to no end.

But this always happens to me at this stage, I think I should call it the 'ugly phase' of my paintings.

 After a break + a glass of wine, she is coming together a bit better. But her left check bone is still giving me the heebies!

This part is my reward. My favourite. FAVOURITE, part of painting girls is their eyes. I can, and have! spent hours getting them just right! But for me this is where my painting becomes some else.

So now her nose isn't quite so sticky out, in a weird straight, no bumps way + the pirate patch is done.

And I finished off this week, with her dress. 

I am unsure as to where I will go with her now. Her hair, in particular is frustrating me, I think I need to re think the style, or maybe it needs to be bigger? 

I am thinking this could be one of those times that I just need to be brave and leap with out thinking too hard about it.

☆ Honouring your Inner World [Lifebook 2014]

 Week 20 - Honouring Your Inner World with Serena Bridgeman

This weeks lesson was from the amazingly talented Serena Bridgeman, some one who's work I have greatly admired since I first met her on one of Tams earlier courses.

So I was very excited to do a lesson taught by Serena.

And using spray inks + stencils, I created this peaceful girl...

I love the way the spray inks gave the initial tone to the girls face, and after adding a few extra blue tones, I actually loved creating the girls face with a pallet that I wouldn't have necessarily chose myself.

Instead of choosing a lotus blossom to symbolise inner peace I chose a butterfly, their gracefulness, their beauty, their peaceful nature for my symbol of peace.

I really loved this process, and the lovely peaceful girl which I created.

Week 23 - June 2014

A bit of fun this week, inspired by my muses Bean + Bug.

We were cleaning up their toys the other week + at some stage they had tossed the entire contents of their dress up box all over the room. 

So here we are, me: "Come on guys! help me pack up - I didn't make this mess!"

Bug + Bean: "'la la la la la' oh whats this? Oh look Bean it is my very special necklace I LOVE it"

Me: "Come on you two, I am going to leave you to do it on your own."

Bu + Bean: "Nooooo we can't do it alone"

Me: Well you made this mess on your own! It isn't my mess"

Bug: [picks up these pom poms + sticks it on here head] says in a deep alto voice "I am a JOLLO FISH"

Me, Bean + Bug - hilariously laughing and wiping tears away

Bean + Bug: [deep voices] "We are JOLLO FISH"
