Alis volat suo Mixed media on canvas ©2012 Kirstin McCulloch |
So this January has me creating a lot of art with wings. I am slightly obsessed.
I think it is because I like the idea of flying free from all the crap that happened last year.
And, I was also flitting through the pintrest boards and found a tattoo with the words "she flies with her own wings" written in latin - Alis volat suo. [the latin according to google translate.]
So simple. So true. So what I aspire to do. Fly with my own wings - a more whimsical way of saying she walks to the beat of her own drum.
I think its time. Time to shake of others' wings, and don my own. And perhaps time to get my first bit of body ink!
Anyway, I just love this painting. She immediately went up on my wall (she's approx an A2 size - not sure what that is in cms or inches + I will start adding dimensions), but she just totally resonates with me.
So I would love to know if you have been inspired by a tattoo, or art work to change, or act? I would love to know.
P.S I have some close ups in my facebook gallery if you would like to see more detail. x
Oh this is going to sound weird! I saw your heading as 'Ali's volat suo' and thought 'what?'. Then read the meaning 'she flies with her own wings' it took my breath away. I have had a tough day responding to the negativity of others...message from the universe here to me I think! Great painting and great message that it embodies!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Alison that made my morning! I am sorry you have had a tough day and I am pleased my painting was able to make it a little better. On the bad days you should try remember that Ali flies with her own wings - I am trying to remember it too. x
DeleteI came here via NatashaMays blog & so pleased I did, love your winged beauties, this one's a real treasure :)
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful!! Love her eyes, especially. I have been doing winged things, too. there must be something in the air that make us all resonate. :)
ReplyDeleteGood to fly through and land in a happy place. Lovely. xox Corrine
ReplyDeleteI got my first tattoo as a reminder to stick to the changes I had made. My second tattoo also assisted me in a transformation of living one way to living another. Both are designs I made ... which for me was my art!
ReplyDeleteI love that your tats are symbols of change. I think that is why this saying really resonated with me, I am undergoing a change, and I have (finally) decided to do it my way! Thank you for sharing
DeleteHi Kristin; She has a mod vibe to her that I like and she definitely looks up/lives up to her inspiration -- but I do like that quote she flies with her own wings. Expressive eyes and I like the hairdo and her mouth. Blessings Terri www.morningdewdrops.typepad.com
ReplyDeleteThank you Terri x
DeleteShe is so beautiful! I love her large eyes and the ruffled dress. I really like your wings story. I can't say that a specific piece of artwork has inspired change in me, but I can say that art in general has. I've only just begun painting and drawing (started August 2011) and am trying out some different things trying to find my own voice. So, your story really resonates with me at this point in my journey.
ReplyDeleteShe flies with her own wings. I really like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with wings, too -- they appear in my fiction a lot, and I'm wondering if it's for the same reasons.
ReplyDeleteI love this painting! Your winged girl is lovely, and her expression is just perfect. Such a mixture of emotions.

Wonderful! I especially like the ruffles on her dress! Are you really going to get a tattoo this year? Wow! Lots of tattoos on pinterest but I'm too scared of the needle to ever get one! Besides if you got tired of it, it'll be even harder to remove!!! Blessings! :^) patsy
