☆ Midsummer Night [Illustration Friday]

The first thing that sprung to my mind when I saw this weeks Illustration Friday prompt - besides the fact that we are in the depths of winter here and inspiration was short in coming from that perspective, was Shakespeare's 'Midsummer Night's Dream'

I never studied this play at school but I went through a phase where I was obsessed with Dead Poet's Society, (O captain, my captain. sigh!), and this play was integral to the book/ film.

So here is my interpretation of Titania, Queen of the faeries.

"I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell'd skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in.."

☆ Launch [Illustration Friday]

I've been thinking a lot lately, a lot about the direction I am currently heading, a lot about the type of life I want to be living, a lot about where I want to be.... I don't have any answers yet, but I figure if I am open and honest with myself, I might just figure it out.

But I also know my self, and what I know is that I am an over thinker, I can and often do over think everything. From my peanut butter selection, [which obviously we all know is VERY important!] to which colour scheme to use on a new sketch.

It's okay to let go.
Raise your arms,
Spread your wings
and Launch

and maybe that should be my new mantra.

☆ Long Weekend Birthday Bliss...

A huge Queens Birthday long weekend for the Mac family with Bugs birthday [hooray!] and my brothers 30th.
Birthday Girl
Three days of food, wine and laughter, three days of long days and short nights and sharing the soap box platform, three days of Bean and her cousin being bestest buddies one minute, arch nemeses and tears the next.

Bugs birthday took on an owl theme - unintentionally the cake was supposed to be an abstract princess castle, but I lacked the energy for that.

Part of her present from us was a hand made owl mobile, and although I have been planing this for months, of course I, the consumate procrastinator left it to the last minute to start.

Still need to be 'mobilised'
Home made bunting - no problem, I'll wip that up the night before! [FYI Sticky velcro spots - good idea in theory, but not so great in practise!]

And finally some work in progress, which I have put aside while I finish this weeks illustration friday.

Hope your weekend was just as much fun as ours - maybe not as tiring though!

☆ Shadows [Illustration Friday]

the Shadows on my heart lifted
when you came into my life
like a single sunbeam's song
on a dreary winters day.

Winter has really settled in here - today is the coldest I have been since I left scotland two years ago...

My first serious attempt at black hair I need to practise some more I think.

Hope your toes aren't freezing off like ours!

☆ ATC Exchange May

May's ATC exchange was 'OWL' and I had such fun creating these two wee pieces.

I wonder what June's exchange will be?? Can't wait!
