☆ Was I Asleep? [Illustration Friday]

How quickly this last year has gone. Not only has it been over a year since we moved into our new home, and nearly two years since we left Scotland, but in a weeks time my baby, who is no longer a baby, Bug, will be one year old.

How can a year possibly pass so quickly? Was I asleep?

I remember when I was younger that years seemed to crawl by at the pace of a tortoise, I always wanted it to pass quicker, my birthday or christmas, or even the local show day all seemed to take ages to arrive. But now as an adult, I am the exact opposite, I want to savour every day, the girls seem to grow up too quickly and I know that I will be one of those mothers who lament the passing of each year with a (imagine shaky falsetto voice here), 'It was only yesterday I was chasing you around in nappies'..

So this weeks illustration friday image come to me relatively easily, I've been feeling the passing of time keenly this week, and also one of Beans favourite princesses is Sleeping Booty (as she says it!) and we have to read it several times a week (sometimes several times a day depending on the princess de jour!)

So here is my image for Asleep inspired by Sleeping Booty -

☆ Soaked [Illustration Friday]

Soaked - this was a hard one to depict. I wondered about adding beads of rain in her hair and on her clothes, but I didn't want to be unhappy with the result. Yes, yes I chickened out, but I think I will put it on my list of things to experiment with in the future.

Not as detailed as my previous illustrations, but just as much fun to draw. I kept stopping, wondering what her story was, why was she standing on a door stoop soaking wet?

☆ Umbrella [April's ATC]

Now that my ATC partner has received her 'Umbrella' ATC's I can now share them. I love to collage, one of my year twelve major works was three huge collages, and this was a great way to get back into it on a much smaller scale, although the ideas for these cards took longer to take form than some of my other ATC challenges.

Anyway here they are:

'Sail Away with Me'

'Autumn Rain'
So fun to make - I love working this smaller format.

☆ Safari [illustration friday]

I had such fun illustrating this weeks IF.  Half way through the process, the drawing changed from one of a hunting safari, to one of a photography safari. I kept humming the tune to Bean's favourite book at the moment - 'Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen.

So maybe she is going on her own bear hunt, she's gonna catch a big one, it's a beautiful day and she's not scared!

Have a great week.

☆ Beginner [Illustration Friday]

I have the most amazing family - I was spoiled, pampered and made to feel like I was queen... or as Bean would say the mama princess! It's mothers day in Australia (not sure if it is in other countries and if so, for all the mothers reading, happy mothers day! x), and I was made breakfast, received big hugs from my girls, and husband, a voucher for some badly needed pampering, had morning tea in the glorious autumn sun with mother and 91 year old nan, given some badly needed me time with G taking the girls to the park, and had the washing put out for me.

I am blessed...

A year ago, I was heavily pregnant with Bug, had just moved into our new house, still homesick for Scotland, I was a beginner in this new life we were building together.

Have a great week

☆ Time for a change

I thought its time. Time I mixed it up a little, make a few changes to my blog and plus I also had an idea for a new header.

It will take a while to get used to the change but... I think I like it.

☆ Lesson

This prompt had me pondering lessons... life lessons in particular. As in what is the single most important lesson I have learnt? What would be the most important lesson that I could impart to Bug & Bean? What lessons do I still have to learn? All very heavy stuff for a Sunday evening, and a question that I will file away for later pondering.
So my illustration is just a lesson in using my markers in new ways, a lesson in detail and a lesson in starting my illustration on the weekend rather than waiting for thursday. (And as  Bean suggested she is giving the bear a lesson on how to be a pretty princess called raining mia.)
And the single most important lesson I have learnt so far? Well it may just be that there is no such word as impossible. It is in fact two words - I’m possible.
