☆ Artsy Abode with Carissa Paige [Life Book 2014]

 Week 37 - Artsy Abode with Carissa Paige

This was such a fun little lesson. A quick one by Carissa Page + where I used a picture I had of a cool tree house + some beautiful patterned collage pieces.

This felt like a really loose painting, one that all came together perfectly, one where I didn't worry about perspective, realism or whether something looked right or not.

It just flowed beautifully.

And I love how she turned out.

And one day I would like to have a tree house like the one in my painting. One I can escape to from the world!

Have a fab week.

☆ Simple Butterfly Fun [Creating with Kids}

This week I have a simple Creating with Kids project to share with you.

And the best thing about this project is there was minimal mess + very little clean up. {Bonus for me as one who detests clean up!!}

So I was talking with Bean about what she would like to do, and of course she wanted to do an art lesson with me. (Love. This. Kid! She is totally a girl after my own heart.) But this day, I had some   pressing work to do + I didn't feel like dragging out all the paints + stuff.

Then I remembered I had some butterflies that I found in a $2 shop + I had a heap of scrap paper lying around + a brand new glue stick.

So we went to the studio + I dug everything out, but the butterflies, because of course I had put them somewhere 'safe' and couldn't find them.

I improvised with paper plates + a butterfly template that I downloaded from the internet (Just google butterfly template there are stacks).

I think these worked better any way, the curvature of the plate gives them a beautiful line.

I found the craft store butterflies a couple of days later + both girls are still (a week later) happily busy decorating their butterflies.

Bug + Bean are working toward making enough butterflies to hang from their roof and make it look like a magical butterfly world.

The best thing about this project is that I can pull it out + we can collage for five minutes before dinner + it is so simple to pack away. All our supplies are stashed in a shallow box that lives on our dining room table.

Do you have any simple projects that you can do for five minutes at a time? I would love it if you shared it with us.

☆ Life Book [week 6]

Follow Your Star
©2012
 Kirstin McCulloch
This weeks Life book lesson centred on achievements. Any achievements from finishing school, to loosing weight, to painting a picture, to travel. Big and small achievements.

It was a collage over technique using a magazine photo for a base of the face, and I also used it for the  wings.

The technique gave me awesome butterfly wings (mine are never that cool) but a somewhat freaky face.

I don't mean its freaky as in 'freaky', I just mean it is more realistic than my normal paintings, so I find my self looking twice.

I guess I don't recognise the style as mine. (which, by the way, is kinda cool 'cause that must mean I finally have my own style!)

I didn't use a quote, as many life bookers did, just a few words that resonated at the time - 'Follow Your Star; celebrate the failures and revel in your achievements.'

The achievements I chose to revel in were things like traveling, creating, the girls and Mr Mac, my family, loosing weight, living overseas and moving home to Australia.

It was so good to remind myself of these. How often I beat myself up because I was a cranky mama, or I vegged out instead of doing, or I didn't get up in the morning to walk, or I was a bitchy wife. Perhaps I need to slow down more often and remind myself of my achievements - big and small.

Do you remind yourself of your achievements? Have you revelled in your achievements lately? (If your a fellow life booker and have done week sixes lesson - I bet you have!) I would love to hear your stories.

☆ Umbrella [April's ATC]

Now that my ATC partner has received her 'Umbrella' ATC's I can now share them. I love to collage, one of my year twelve major works was three huge collages, and this was a great way to get back into it on a much smaller scale, although the ideas for these cards took longer to take form than some of my other ATC challenges.

Anyway here they are:

'Sail Away with Me'

'Autumn Rain'
So fun to make - I love working this smaller format.
