☆ All She Wanted for her Birthday was a Pet Giraffe [Friday Art]

I am ready for winter to finish up.

So ready!

I know lots of people feel this way towards the end of winter, but for me summer is just as bad.

The extreme temperatures finally take their toll, the harsh summer sun, the endless winter colds, the constant energy sapping sun, the feeling of never being cool or warm enough.

I seem to become restless, unmotivated, unfocused -  I go down to the studio, sit there for five minutes and them come back up stairs, finding no inspiration, feeling just bleh!

So on Wednesday I had had enough of my own company, and sat down to paint something. Even if it was a mess of colour + I found a sketch I had done weeks ago which I had planned to paint (weeks ago)

Awesome! It made it easier to just paint, the hard work was done + it was just a matter of process now, to become lost in the familiarity of the movement, the smells, the tinkling of brushes of the water jar.

Just what my soul needed.

  1. I love to get all those long-sleeved sweaters out of storage in fall and walk around smelling the aroma of rain (which I really crave right now, as we had the hottest week of the summer) and to sit in the sun, having my coffee with friends I haven't seen all winter in the spring.

I love the change of seasons. I think each has its own beauty...

    Beautiful work!!! Love the emotion!!!

  3. I too love the smell of rain, especially summer rain! my husband thinks I'm crazy but I can smell it coming even when not in tbe forecast. He has had to become a believer in my secret super power. I love the onset of fall but not the end - it means winter is coming ( not a fan). I am a summer fall girl! I am crabby in the winter and yet to find a method to snap out of a hovering boohoo the last 2 months of it. love your birthday girl.

  9. this is incredibly beautiful!!! I love the expression conveyed in both their eyes. Always loved giraffes...I guess most animals :) As for rut busting, if I'm not motivated to make art-which is so rare for me, I'll sit down with some art books/magazines and then it's not long before I just HAVE to make something.I wish summer was on the horizon instead of seeing it sadly come to an end soon here...

  10. Love this work. Just beautiful. Glad you've been inspired. Winter? Heck, I glad summer is almost over here, can't stand the heat. Love it when it's cool, cold and downright shivering time. I so look forward to it. Have a wonderful day and your work is awesome.

  13. This is so gorgeous! I know I'm getting repetitive but your girls are always so dreamy and beautiful and your ideas are so clever. I love this giraffe! I'm starting to see a real difference in the evenings here now - it's getting dark so much earlier and I'm really dreading the days when it's not light til after 9am and dark by 3.30pm - those are the times I have difficulty staying awake far less getting motivated to do art. I just want to curl up on the sofa in front of the fire with the dogs under a blanket!

  14. So sweet! We have two baby giraffes at our zoo right now and I bet all the kids who visit them want to snuggle up with them like your sweet little girl. We are at the end of our summer here which wasn't much of a summer with cool weather and fog. Now that school has started its really getting hot which seems so unfair!

  16. That is a wonderful smile making soul lifting painting. Winter is the worst for me but better since i moved to South Carolina - no snow and you can be outside without freezing.

  18. Oh, this is such a lovely piece, the way she's sitting there, that cute giraffe ... Beautiful work! Don't have any tips for getting out of a rut, except maybe what Linda said: sit down with some artbooks and let yourself be inspired ... I'm also looking forward to spring, the absolute best season here in Queensland.
