☆ Whimsical Wizard {Life Book 2014}

Week 44 - Whimsical Wizard with Steven Speight

I wasn't sure when I first saw this lesson, how it would turn out.

I don't often paint boys, I mainly do them for clients, and I enjoy painting them, but they don't seem to appear naturally like my girls do...

So this weeks lesson by the amazingly talented Steven Speight, was a magical, whimsical wizard.

And I loved painting my boy!

There was such a wealth of techniques that Steven shared. The clouds were done with a template, as were the back ground details of the city.

And even though my wizards face is a little more feminine than I would have preferred I adore my wizard + am thinking of a few nephews who could do with their own wizards!!

Have a great week.

☆ The Wonderful World of Words [Life Book 2014]

Week 21 - The Wonderful World of Words with Jennibellie

This was such a fun lesson - I know, I know,  I seem to say this a lot about Life Book, but they are just so much fun!!

Anyway Jennibellie's lesson was full of techniques, more smooshing of paint, journalling + using that journalling in creative ways.

And in the end I created a fabulously fun page, but had also figured out through the journalling something that had been bothering me for a while.

And I had to 'tend' to my 'garden', as I had been neglecting if for a while now.

Love that!

I hope you have a great week.

☆ Life Book [Week 21]

Week 21 on life book had Rhomany show us some lettering styles to honour our present.

I loved the lettering detail that she went through for us, and I love the effect that it has on the shading of my name.

I cut out a decorative pattern and had a backing of red card.

I keep looking at this piece thinking it is too simple, that it needs something else, but on the other had its simplicity is equally effective. One to ponder upon I suppose.

(But what ever the out come, it has definitely highlighted how dirty my scanner is!)

A fun lesson to do, I loved being able to zone out with the lettering and the shading!

☆ Life book [week 19]

Life Book - Week 19.

Boy am I behind! But this weeks lesson was an exercise in taking a moment to check in with my self, with my body, with my head.

To see what I was feeling in that. exact. moment.

And it was tough.

Because like many of us, I will often lie to myself about how I am doing.

When some one asks you how you are - do you reply 'fine', or 'good'?

How often would that be true?

Imagine if you said "well actually my husband snored all last night so I am tired and cranky, and then I came down stairs and stubbed my toe on a my little pony, that I had asked to be put away 3 times, before my morning caffeine fix, so I not only am I cranky, I am pissed as well."

Imagine...

Anyway, I spent some time reflecting on myself, and at that moment, I felt unravelled, but instead of feeling anxious or stress, I realised that it was ok. I was ok.

So out of this feeling came this painting. 'I am unravelled and it's ok'

[as a side note, I have a friend who's a psychoanalyst who swears fine actually means fucked up, insecure, neurotic and/or emotional. Yep I think that sums up my use of the word fine]

Anyway, I felt such peace after finishing this painting.

☆ Life book [week 8]

This weeks life book lesson was from the fabulous Mystele.

Simplified, Mystele's lesson was a 'pulled art' collage creation. Pulling the picture from background elements, giving up control, and going with what the painting shows you.

I am not great at giving up control, (yes, everyone, I am a control freak, and proud of it!), so this was a really challenging piece to create.

In fact after I made the background, it sat there, taunting me, telling me there was nothing there, telling me all I had was a pretty background, so I threw it in a cupboard, and left it for a week.

I was determined this week, to conquer the beautiful background and create something!

And eventually this is the figure that emerged.

She started off looking really cranky, then lost and now I think she alternates between annoyed, bewildered and sad. Not surprising, as these were all the emotions I was processing when I created her.

And after all that angst, I love her. She is so different from my other big eyed girls, and yet she is just as powerful to me.

It never fails to surprise me how much emotion creating can pull from me and just when I am running dry, a new flood of creativity washes over me. I loved this style of creating, and I think you will see more of it from me in the future. Especially when the ideas start slowing down.

Have you discovered a new style or tried something new lately? How did it effect you? I would love to know.

Have a great weekend.

☆ Life Book [week 7]

Interio
Front of my House
[some how this post became a saved draft instead of being published last week - sorry if you've been looking for it from face book - damned technology!]

Week Seven of Lifebook  had Connie teach us to create house to keep our dreams in. A space to keep them safe. Some where we would write down our dreams and then let them go.

On the back of my house front I wrote my dreams. Dreams for my art, for my girls, for my marriage, for my house, for anything that came into my mind. I free wrote. That is, I wrote what ever came into my mind at the time. I think there were a few umms, involved too. I didn't re-read it, I glued the front to the back via the hinges, then cut around the door and a centre line through to the roof and then I put it in my life book box, not to be seen again..... well ok, so until I go through it at the end of the year!

Pretty cool huh. A house for my dreams - to keep them safe and sound while they grow and develop.

Do you have a house for your dreams? Have you thought about your dreams lately? I mean really thought about them? Perhaps it time you revisited them if you haven't already.

P.S. Guys - As you probably know Google friend connect changing for non-blogger users! It's just crap yeah? Just as I get a hang of this blogging stuff the rules change yet again!

So I would love for you to keep reading my ramblings, and if you have a moment, to chose one of the new 'follow me' options I have on my side bar - that would be awesome. x
