☆ Frida [inspiration avenue]

I must admit that before this weeks challenge at inspiration avenue I didn't know very much at all about Frida Kahlo

In fact I knew about five things

☆  She was a Mexican painter,

☆ She is the subject of many artists paintings in the blogging world + ATC exchanges,

☆ She painted lots of self portraits,

She was portrayed by Selma Hayek in a movie based on her life (a movie that has been on my must watch list for a couple of years now),

☆ She had a very dominant eye brows (much more impressive than Brooke Shields!)

So this weeks challenge gave me an opportunity to read more about Frida Kahlo and her life. And isn't she, and her art fascinating? I am totally inspired by her and her story.

The quote is one of hers and it totally summed up the way I was feeling the day I painted this. Now I just need to dust of my wings!

  1. I also learned a lot about Frida this week, but I confess I didn't even know as much about her as you did. About all I knew was that she had very distinct eyebrows and facial hair. So you were way ahead of me in the game. Nicely portrayed, this piece is quite fun the way you interpreted her. And the quote you added was PERFECT!

    1. Thanks Lisa - Great topic! My script developed from many years doodling instead of paying attention in the class room! x

  7. You have to watch that movie--I'm not even a die-hard Frida fan, and I loved it! I wish I had doodled more in school, lol, I love the writing & the quote and your Frida!

  8. The facial expression of your Frida is so spot on-- fierce, perhaps unimpressed, but always soldiering on, no matter what. She was such a talent and so beautiful, and I love her quotes too. Beautiful coloring and the design of the character next to the lettering works very nicely :-D
