☆ The Kimmi Doll Explosion [Friday Art]

Week 18 - April 2014

Last week, I realised that I couldn't do it all.

With Easter, and family visiting, organising, school holidays + preparing for a market stall, I realised that there was no way I was going to get a Friday Art post up.

But that didn't mean that there wasn't any art done last week....

Not at all - last week, there was lots of burning the candle at both ends, late nights + early mornings + lots + lots of Kimmi Dolls being painted.

Aren't they sweet.

I am selling them at the next market stall I have at the end of the month. And I was hoping you could help me.

You see, I remember watching one of those home shows, one of the ones that help you sell your home + the host of the show said something that has stuck with me forever

"You need to show people how to use a space."

What he meant was that if you have an empty room, you need to show people that it could be a bedroom, a study or a guest room. The host believed that houses with furniture, sold so much quicker than empty ones.

And so this is where I would love your opinion.

These have a hole + will have chain or ribbon through them.

I am thinking of having a stand with a hook or two, maybe a door handle to show people how they might use these, but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas?

I would love to know how you would use these Kimmi Dolls. Please, please share with me below.

  1. How big are they? Can they be worn as pendants? Yes, definitely style them when you take a photo, to help us imagine how they'd look when worn or used in a space.

  2. Hang in a mobile? Like you did with your owls?

  3. Wear on one around your neck while selling them... You could make some broaches....glue a little pin on the back pin in to a coat or sweater, hang them off a lamp shade...I do that a Christmas with a flat gorgeous decoration, I also hang decorations off of a hanging light. It's hard to see how big they are.... put a few on a colored ribbon for little girls necklace. Are they varnished? If they are hard you could hang one from your purse on a small ball chain...also I hang things on my mirror on the inside of my car ...I have a heart and a peace sign. ....I hope that helps! Good luck!!

  7. These are SO super cute! I would be inclined to hang a grouping of them on my wall, which makes me inclined to recommend hanging three of them on a long, wooden plaque for display.

  8. Very sweet. I'd like to hang them on the wall in the bedroom -- they might make for sweet dreams.

  11. I'm not a big doll person but I do really like these a lot. My favorite is the girl with her hands to her mouth. These are sweet and not too cute. Glad I got to look at them.

  13. Holy cow that kitten face! These make such a great collection! (Have you considered doing a wooden doll and then paper clothes with all these styles? (OK that's probably a bigger project than you asked for.) Hmmm. A brooch pin? A magnet? I also agree with having a group of three across, whether on a backing, or simply hung individually but in a group. :)

They are about 10cms long, so they could definitely be worn as pendants - great idea Angeli - thank you!

Some one mentioned brooches when I was at the markets - so I will definitely try that, love the lamp shade idea too! Giggles, you have some fabulous ideas - they are varnished, so wearing them as a necklace would be ok, not sure how they would hold up to a key chain, but I could give it a go + see. Great ideas x

I did do several last year for the Christmas markets that had paper + surprisingly they didn't take much more time (a bit more fiddly though!) however the look really cool too. At the time, I thought these would be quicker, but next time I think I will mix it up a bit.... x
