Dragonflies.
Where do I start with these amazingly beautiful and delicate creatures.
Well maybe I should say that they are hugely significant and comforting to me and my life.
My grandfather died when I was living in Scotland. He was an amazing person and before I left Australia, we came to an understanding.
I agreed to explore the world fearlessly, like he had taught me. And if the worst was to happen I was not, absolutely NOT, to come home. He was adamant.
So when the worst did happen, I honoured our agreement and didn't go home.
It was one of the hardest decisions of my life.
So on the day of his funeral, I was sitting staring at this incredible view of the highlands, (and not seeing it you know?), when this pair of dragonflies buzzed around me.
And they kept me company for close to four hours. Unheard of. Unbelievable. Utterly Symbolic.
Later, I found out that dragonflies symbolise rebirth and since that day, dragonflies constantly pop up in my life when I am contemplating, or facing a rebirth of sorts.
I take them to mean I am on the right track, and when I see them I feel such a sense of peace and comfort.
Do you have any reoccurring symbols or animal totems in your life that pop up when you need them the most? I would love it if you shared them below.
Have a great weekend.

DeleteI love your little ladies with their huge eyes. I see a few symbols from time to time come around me - the dragonfly (change), and the bat. A bat started hanging on my upstairs bedroom during a time that my psychicness was working overtime and I realized I was receiving inner guidance. This has happened twice and both times I was facing health concerns (which turned out okay). And before I realized I was going to be laid off a blue heron starting appearing in the park - and alongside the road (symbolic of a new life). Sure enough a really big change came - I moved from California to Arizona - and around midnight as DH and I rode into AZ through the Lake Havasu Wildlife Refuge a big blue heron stood right in the middle of the road! And it has been a good life here in Arizona :)
ReplyDeleteWow! That is an amazing story - I love how you were so open to seeing these symbols. Seeing that Herron as you drove to your new home must have been so comforting. x
DeleteYour ladies are darling and well done ~ I feel the same about the male cardinal ~ he shows up invariably when I on my right path ~ Endearing story ~ My Dad was of Scottish ancestry and they can be tough ~ one learns a great deal, though ~ Bravo to you and keep creating great art ~ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely comments. I have certainly learnt a lot from the tough men in my life! I love that your cardinal pops up to let you know you're on the right path. I find seeing the dragonflies so comforting. x
DeleteYour story about your grandfather was perfect! I do like your paintings. They are always so expressive and tender. I really don't have a single totem to connect to right now, but turtles do reappear near me.
ReplyDeleteThank you Janet! I wonder if the turtles are your totem? Or just a very cool visitor? Thanks for stopping in x

DeleteSuch a beautiful post. I saw the biggest dragonfly I have ever seen last Summer, I always think they are a week bit magical. When my grandmother died, I was struggling and asked for a sign that she was okay and a couple of minutes later I saw a double rainbow. I took that as a sign without questioning anything and was grateful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Natasha for popping in. I was grateful too when I saw the dragonflies. Sometimes such a simple thing (like dragonflies or a rainbow) can give so much comfort. x
DeleteI love your painting and the beautiful story that goes with it. I have the same things with rainbows.
ReplyDeleteThank you - I think there is something so special about rainbows too.
DeleteYour little miss with large eyes is gorgeous and equally interesting is your post!
